Alter egos and giveaway

I love the notion of alter egos.

Obviously blogging as Dexterous Diva is one, but I have toyed with the concept of the different parts of me having their own personality – in a non-schizophrenic way, of course – for some time. My various therapists have often raised an eyebrow as I happily chat about Joanne, Daphne and Roxy, but hey, if I am not hearing voices ( all the time, at least) it’s all good as far as I am concerned. Insert pause here to rock back and forth slightly.

I used to refer to my alter ego Joanne, the new business meeting/networking/academic me in my previous roles in my career – Joanne always wore heels, red lippie and had her head screwed on. I trusted her to do things I didn’t believe that Jo could – she was my confidence shield and the person I needed to become to be forthright, manage people, and have the confidence to to doubt myself. Roxanne/Roxy is my bubbly, outgoing, flirtacious and sexy minx alter ego, although since endo came back so badly after my twin pregnancy she seems to be on extended leave… any sightings please let me know. Daphne is the one who came out on Post Natal depression days and thankfully is less in situ these days, but can be a handful when she arrives unannounced.

Of course, it’s all me,  just on different days and in different moods, but I LOVE the idea that we can be who we want to be and present oursleves however we want to aid confidence, mindset, or just ‘cos. Maybe it’s about finding the space to be who you need to be, to divide your brain between work mode, mum mode, I am sure the alter ego is a useful tool for many of us. Read More >
