Well helloooo lovely Diva readers. It’s a drizzly June day here in the sticks – but at least my veggies over on the plot are getting watered. Oh, the simple life…
I would love for you to give a warm welcome to Jax from Live Otherwise, who I caught up with to share some of her blog tips. Jax is a veteran of blogging with nearly 10 years experience, and has seen the social media world evolve enormously since she got started.
Tell us about your blog – when did you start it and why?
I started my blog nearly 10 years ago. It was a way of keeping in touch with home educating friends – we blogged our days with our children, and it was our equivalent of the chat over the garden fence in our virtual village.
Does blogging have a place in other areas of your career too? If so, how?
We’re in the process of building a business supporting businesses to develop websites using wordpress. This comes out of both having technical/web backgrounds and having used wordpress for as long as it’s been around. Plus my blogging contacts have helped build my confidence in doing this. It’s a virtuous circle.
What do you love most about blogging?
Having a place to be me.
What inspires you to blog?
Pretty much everything. My children, books I read, politicians’ stupidity, you name it, I’ll write about it.
How often do you post?
Which blogs do you read most often and admire?
That’s a difficult one. I love Jane from http://www.northernmum.
com/ - she’s utterly honest and painfully funny. And then there’s Merry at http://patchofpuddles.co.uk who has been blogging as long as I have. We’ve been through a lot together. Honestly, there are too many to list – I must read a hundred or more in a standard week.
What problems have you encountered with your blog?
Ooh, lots. I’ve had technical problems with upgrades and hackers. I’ve lost my mojo, struggled to find my way, and occasionally wondered what the point of it all is. But I always come back.
What top 3 tips would you give to other bloggers?
Back up. And when you’ve backed up, back up. Blog in a way that makes you happy, not for other people.
Where can we find you?
Thanks so much Jax!
