Pimkie Colour forecast app

Posted on: Monday, April 30, 2012

I discovered this amazing website this week, Pimki Colour Forecast which actually maps out in real time what people are wearing in Paris, Milan and Antwerp. AMAZING….browse in real time, check the colour swatches by week or by day, and even see suggestions of what to buy based on what the fashionistas of Europe are wearing.

guest diva depression

When I tell you that I have a full time bookkeeping business, that I am one of 3 people who voluntarily runs a charitable organisation (Blurt) for those affected by depression, and I write, it’s not because I’m arrogant in any way, shape or form but because I often can’t believe it myself. This week 28.4.2012

I went along to the amazing Damien Hirst retrospective at the Tate Modern. If you haven’t been yet make sure you make it a date – the show is an amazing collection of the infamous Young British Artist’s journey through his career – a must see. Also on the art front, Mark Francis and Gizzi Erskine talk us through their Britain at the Tate Britain. #thisisbritain ❤  it’s STILL raining, so I am inclined to go with the flow and make the most of splashing around in puddles with the Mini Divas…check out these amazing boots by Sorel and tell me if the sun feels like it’s starting to shine… ❤ I am getting excited about Summer and festivals and particularly about the amazing line up for Play Fest – Feeder are coming to Norfolk and I can’t wait! ❤ I have been getting out my paints and enjoying some hands on creativity  ❤ this article on MBA online on 10 surprising brands killing it on Pinterest is a great read for some inspiration to your pinning strategy ❤ I signed up to cycle 40k and run 13.1 miles all in the name of raising money for Endometriosis UK – please sponsor me here  ❤

Because blog posts are always supposedly glam images…this is a common sight in our house – me, sofa, Minis to cuddle, loungewear, chill time and pretty nail varnish. Probably painkillers, definitely redbush tea.

Running and riding for endo

Posted on: Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Ok endo warriors, my fellow sisters in pain and suffering, this is for you.

I am taking part in 2 events to raise money for endometriosis – the Nike Run to the Beat in September, and Cycletta 40km bike ride in Brighton in November. This is a big deal for a mum of two with extreme pain and fatigue who is on a mission.

I may have to walk the courses on the day, I may crawl it, but I will do it.

I would like to thank Freya lingerie for supporting me during my training and for sponsoring me to attend the Cycletta event.

If you would like to help me, you can donate to my JustGiving page here,.  Contact me for info on how your brand can get involved. If you want to join me and take part with me, let me know, and above all else please spread the word and donate.

Let’s do this.

5 alternative lives and a creative you

5 alternative lives and a creative youinstagram dex diva cupcakes

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I bet you had a range of things in mind, yet unless you are lucky enough to have a flexible, portfolio way of working with different income streams of all of them those childhood daydreams can remain locked away.

I love the exercise from Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way: A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self which encourages the reader to re-visit those childhood aspirations. What is lovely about going back to them is that it gives us grown ups a chance to re-connect with that inner creative child, our real likes, passions and dreams, and to bring them back into play.

I am very, very lucky in that I work across design, writing and editorial, which is actually what I always wanted to do. I found my school Record of Achievement recently, and my statement of what I wanted to be pretty much encapsulates what I do now – I am my own boss I design, write, blog and can work from anywhere. Obviously blogging wasn’t in the mix then back in 1995, but I can honestly say I am doing what I want to do. I am not location based, time restricted, and I can work around and with my lifestyle and chronic illness.

Here is a task  for you – list the 5 ‘alternative life jobs’ that you used to dream of being, or that you wold do if you weren’t living your current life. Then, look at each one and see how you could work elements from that other “dream job” or lifestyle into what you do today.

Here are mine: Read More >

Guest Diva: life, work and chronic illness

guest divalife, work and chronic illnessMy name is Sam Cleasby and I run Timm Cleasby Photography with my husband Timm. I have Ulcerative Colitis and it is quite literally, shit.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease of the colon causing inflammation and ulceration of the lining due to an abnormal response by the body’s immune system. It’s an embarrassing illness that causes bleeding, diarrhoea and pain and massive tiredness.

When I discovered Dexterous Diva blog and in particular an article called Building A Career With A Chronic Illness, it struck a chord. Though we have two different illnesses, I felt the experiences were very similar. Read More >
