I have recently been feeling as if there is no hope for endometriosis sufferers from conventional medicine, that a life of pain managed in the best way we can is all we can hope for.
True, I believe the body can heal and I work towards that on a daily basis, but in terms of available options from surgery or pharmaceuticals it has been pretty slim pickings – often the side effects are as bad as the endo itself for life impaction and general shittiness.
Imagine my surprise the, to read this article posted by the Endo UK Facebook page yesterday (believe me I don’t read the Daily Fail otherwise) on a surgeon and his innovative techniques to eradicate endometriosis.
Ashwini Trehan, consultant gynaecological surgeon at the Spire Elland Hospital in Halifax and Dewsbury District Hospital has developed a technique which involves the complete eradication of the perineum, the membrane lining the pelvic cavity. This procedure allows for new skin to grow back, without endometrial adhesions.
That’s right, WITHOUT endometrial adhesions.
This makes the surgery far more effective than current diathermy practices as in most cases endo returns after laparoscopic surgery requiring more “management” by the Mirena Coil, and drugs like Zoladex.
Natually, I hot footed it over to Mr Trehan’s site in much excitement, and read the reports and data included there which cite the success rates of his surgery and describe the effectiveness. It’s really impressive stuff – go and have a look, but be warned, the images of s newly stripped pelic cavity are not well partnered with a queasy disposition.
So, all good on the hood, right? It CAN be done, let’s go?
Well, yes and no….
The NHS do offer the surgery but only for residents of Yorkshire, it doesnt come under the Choose and Book service as this guy has got too darn popular. No wonder, changing women’s lives and preseerving fertility, he is our man of the moment as far as I can concerned.
Privately, yes it’s nice and easy to book but the procedure costs in the region of £10,000, and as any one with endo knows, you can’t have private healthcare with existing conditions.
So. There we have it. There is hope, but a mountain of challenges to get there. I need £10k, in effect. And so do the other women that need the surgery so badly.
I would get it, I would do car boot sales ad infinitum, fundraising, begging, borrowing, singing for my supper, all of that.
What do you think? Should I raise money for my surgery? Ho do you feel about options being limited to postcodes?

heya,
i don’t know if you have been on to the endo-uk forum since this article was posted, but there are some women on there that have had this done (one, more than once i believe) and they said that it is the most painful op they have ever had and not only that, but it doesn’t work!
i don’t know about you but i tend to listen more to other ladies with endo, than i do these ‘amazing’ surgeons!
xx
Thats a really good point. Thanks so much for the comment. It does look rather gruesome! I appreciate the balanced view point too
xx
awe, ive just re-read what i wrote, i sound really harsh. i didnt meant to be (ive only just woken up). i just know im sick of hearing about these magical cures etc, when they just arent. us women go through so much and its wrong of them to print such rubbish.

thats the thread on the forum for you to have a read through. if its something you want to have done then go for it, but if you do then make sure you arent expecting the miracles that they are promising. altho, on the other side of the coin, you might well be one of the lucky ones who it does work for?

Darling it didnt sound harsh at all! Really balanced, and have just been to the boards to read.
xxxx
well, my advice would be to do a little more research (its so easy for those of us in pain to jump at the chance of a ‘cure’) and then make your decision.
good luck with whatever you decide
xx
A cure would be nice. Believe me, I’ve longed for a cure for decades now. However, I cannot fathom that anyone’s surgical skill is so miraculous that they’d leave no adhesions.
Beware snake oil salesmen.

Good point Foxy. Lovely to find your blog too. I will be following.
Hope you are ok and painfree today xx
[...] leads me to the next option; ideally I would like to get a date in the diary to see Mr Trehan, the man with the plan. He is the guy who purports that his radial excision of the perineal skin leaves suffers pain free. [...]
someone i know was operated on by Mr. Trehan for endo and fibroids and feels great now, although i understand he now only wrks in private hospitals
