5 Tips to Aid Your Fitness Resolutions

By Jo Gifford
It’s January. We can bet you have dusted off your trainers, dug out the gym card and signed up for another healthy eating plan to get those pounds shifting.

It’s now halfway through the month that sees most of us embark on a crazy regime that is unmanageable and unsustainable until we find a routine that works. How are you doing? Hopefully you may have made some headway and worked off the Christmas party calories at least, but maybe you aren’t feeling as healthy as you would like. Yet.

Here are 5 healthy boosters to help with your new fitness regime- or at least feel a little better.

1. Fat-Free Dressing from Maidenform

Santa’s little post party helper. Maidenform create a series of undergarment ranges designed especially to help smooth out extra lines, control a few extra inches and help us ladies get the silhouette we want to look and feel like hot stuff. Check out the Fat Free dressing arm toning top if those bingo wings are feeling a little too matronly, or try theWear you own bra corset top for a cinched von Teese waist under clothes if the measuring tape needs a little nudge now and then.

2. Caudalie Draining Organic Herbal Teas

Created especially for the Vinotherapie Spa and works as part of the Caudalie Slimming Regimen, these teas feature the draining ingredients red vine, blueberry, blackcurrant, orange peel and cinnamon. Delicious hot or as a cool drink to enjoy throughout the day to re-hydrate and aid the detoxifying process.

3. Foot Kiss

If high heels and dancing have taken their toll over December, your heels may be looking worse for wear. This ingenious product is like a visit to the beauty salon in a box, and has enough product for two applications. Simply apply the gel to your heels, cover with the heel plasters provided and leave for 10 minutes. When you jump in the bath or shower use the scraper to remove the skin from your heels for gorgeously smooth feet.

4. Barielle’s Nail Strengthener Cream

Barielle’s Nail Strenthener Cream was originally created to condition the hooves of thoroughbred racehorses, so your poor brittle nails suffering from too much festive nail varnish and the cold elements will be no problem to sort. Apply every night to get things started and then twice a week to see fantastic results.

5. Weleda’s Birch Juice & Cellulite Oil

Take a tip from the supermodels and try Erin Connor’s holistic  approach to de-toxing with Weleda’s Birch Juice and Cellulite Oil. The tender young birch leaves contain flavanoids which encourage the body to increase elimination from the kidneys and sweat glands to flush out toxins; by using this natural juice sipped in water throughout the day alongside the oil morning and evening it won’t be long before those seasonal extras are out of your system!

Post Xmas escapism

Posted on: Saturday, January 1, 2011

I love Christmas. I love the build up to it, time with family, the atmospshere and catching up with people home for the break.

I love to have time with my other half, the kids and to enjoy a collapsed timetable for a while.

That is not to say I won’t welcome back normality with open arms this coming week.

I am sure I can’t be alone in finding Christmas an endless compromise of activities – family, more family, family visiting from here, there, over there and oh yes there too, all of whom want to see the children. Food, more food, more visits. Work was busy for me this holiday period too which is fantastic as I am self employed, but slightly more stressful as it all has to be fitted in around the other things going on. Work for me, as most mums I should imagine, is a break. Time out, personal space. Breathing time.  But not when you are trying to crowbar it in and not when nursery are having a break too. I love my babies, I love them dearly but is it so bad to say that I also love those 4 hours twice a week when I sit all on my own behind my mac and work? Does that make me evil?

I have a split family, so for years Christmas has been a compromise and a rush around. I used to come home from London armed with gifts, spend time with mum and my brothers, my boyfriend and family, then off to se my dad and stepmum et all before a trip back for New Year feeling as if I had frankly shortchanged everyone and that I had a broom up my arse as I drove around various counties. I now spend Christmas day with my partner and either his family or mine, (or both on occasion), but inevitably someone is left out. This year we had no time with my dad, stepmum and the family in St Albans, little time with my mum and grandad and I miss them all very much. There are simply far too many people to visit, traditions to be upheld (we always do XYZ on Boxing Day/Christmas Eve/whenever and too many things which appear from nowhere to sap time.

We have had an amazing time with incredible hosts and kindness shown throughout the Christmas fortnight and I have thoroughly enjoyed our celebrations. Maybe it’s because I am a mum of young twin daughters recovering from an operation but I am tired, which makes me grumpy and I find the socialising all a bit much sometimes. Know what I mean?

Ideally I would love to sit in PJ”s as doing as possible, huddle by the fire and have a good, hearty dose of me time with an intriguing book interspersed with lovely wintery walks and a roaring pub fire. I would still, of course love to see family but the only way to get the required healthy space in between is to make the holidays about 4 times the length. Which I am up for, but I suspect would be  a little tricky to enforce nationwide. Jo’s PJ holiday I shall call it.

I would play with the kids and their toys guilt free, knowing we have LOADS of time before we need to see Auntie X or neighbour so and so before they leave from their holiday visit. I would, actually, like to bugger off somewhere and hide for a bit with Miles and the kids and a massive turkey, cheese board and merlot supply which would only be a holiday if the kids agreed to sleep through the night, every night. Not likely.

My hope is that over the years the balance must sort itself out and that the people I hold dear but don’t see one year will have pride of place the next; we all have miniature military schedules and objectives to meet during the holiday time  and my angst must be echoed by families everywhere doing their best to please and to get some much needed r and r too,

The other solution lies in just buggering off after Christmas somehow, to recover, detox and get the rest that the real holiday simply doesn’t bring. I may make that my aim for 2012 and see if a child friendly spa has my name on it.

In the meantime, dear readers, I wish you health and happiness for the coming year. Oh, and if you are going on a  January break enjoy it. I am not jealous in the slightest.Bah humbug.

x
